Washingtonian Magazine named Steve and his company, Good Note DJs, one of the area's "Best Wedding Vendors" in 2012 - the fourth year in a row he's been so honored. In 2009, 2010, 2011, and again in 2012, he received WeddingWire's "Bride's Choice Award" for quality, service, and professionalism - an award given to the top five percent of WeddingWire's vendor community. The DC area's leading wedding blog District Weddings featured him in November, 2009. Steve is constantly upgrading his performing, entertaining, and master-of-ceremonies skills through education and training. He's completed "Professional Process" training with Peter Merry (the nation's preeminent Wedding Entertainment DirectorTM) and "Marbecca Method Love Story Workshop" training with the legendary Mark Ferrell. He's taken voice and acting classes at the Studio Theatre as well as private voice coaching, and attended major wedding industry and DJ industry conferences. Steve regularly shares advice and insights about weddings on his blog, Good Note DJ's Guide to Weddings. In August 2004, he was a guest on "The Wedding Show" (WJFK, 106.7 FM). His article "Music to Set the Mood" was published in Washingtonian Magazine (October 1999). He's been profiled in the Washington Post and the City Paper. Steve has served as a music consultant for museums, radio and film documentaries, and Time-Life Music; chaired panel discussions at music conferences; emceed at many concerts and festivals; and been a guest on radio stations WWOZ (New Orleans), WEVL (Memphis), KDHX (St. Louis), KPFK (Los Angeles), and the old WHFS (Bethesda). Steve is a member of the American Disc Jockey Association and the Washington Area Music Association. He donates a portion of Good Note DJ's revenues to American Forests and Hungry For Music, two charitable organizations that help the environment and underprivileged communities.
